DESCRIPTION This trap is designed for catching octopuses in areas where the seabed is less rugged, thanks to its smaller mesh. This is an advantage because the smaller mesh prevents octopuses from sticking their tentacles out, which in turn prevents other species from eating them, a common issue with traps that have larger mesh openings where specimens have been found missing tentacles.

The trap is handcrafted, from cutting to assembly, entirely manual. All parts are connected with stainless steel staples, an ideal material for this product due to its durability and resistance to corrosion from seawater contact.

This smaller and more flexible mesh trap includes a pair of rectangular braces placed inside the ends to prevent deformation during use or storage.

At the bottom of the trap, a pair of corrugated iron bars provide weight and stability, ensuring the trap sinks and stays in place, unaffected by tides and currents at the seabed. At the top of the trap, there is a round opening for the octopus to enter.

This entry, made with mesh, features points at the bottom to prevent the octopus from escaping once inside. This entry also serves as the exit point for the captured specimens, secured to the trap with stainless steel staples.

This part of the trap also includes the feeder, a tube with smaller, more rigid mesh to prevent deformation. The feeder tube is designed to be filled with bait to attract octopuses, featuring a plastic lid (approved by the Spanish food registry) that automatically closes with a rubber band. This provides convenience for the fisherman, allowing quick and efficient baiting without wasting time with hooks or other devices.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE Minimal maintenance is required due to its high-quality plastic construction. However, with continuous use, it is recommended to clean it a couple of times during a long fishing season with fresh water to remove algae, shells, and other materials. If land storage is necessary, clean with fresh water, removing adhered residues from the mesh. They can be stacked, but it is advised not to exceed five heights and to nest them as accurately as possible to avoid deformation from the weight.

Finally, if stored outdoors, it is recommended to cover the traps with material that protects them from weather effects, as the product quality can be affected.
